Transcript of Video: “Hoover Dam Tours from Las Vegas”
Hi, Doc Wymer here, Las Vegas Tour Guide, here for Detours of Nevada.
A tour of Hoover Dam is a favorite destination for visitors to Las Vegas – and it’s one of my own favorite tours.
For over a decade now, Detours guides have shown thousands of visitors from around the world the remarkable and unforgettable beauty of the American West, and now that includes tours of Hoover Dam and the Hoover Dam Bridge.
We pick up our guests at the major Las Vegas hotels. You’ll ride in style in one of the finest tour vehicles leaving Las Vegas today.
How do we know that? That’s what we hear from our guests. Over the years they have told us what they wanted and they helped us design our vehicles for your comfort.
We share history and stories about Las Vegas as we head toward Hoover Dam.
You’ll see the historic Railroad Pass Club, the oldest operating casino in Nevada. Built in 1931 just outside the Boulder City limits, this is where the men who built Hoover Dam could go to play cards, enjoy a lovely beverage and maybe dance with the ladies.
And instead of following the big motor coaches and the other tour operators around Boulder City, with Detours of Nevada, you’ll drive through Boulder City, where you’ll see places and landmarks you’ll recognize later in the movie you’ll see at Hoover Dam.
You’ll hear stories only an experienced tour guide would know… You’ll hear about real people, and you’ll see things and places with your Detours guide that other tour companies miss.
After leaving Boulder City, depending on season, time of day, and plain good luck, we may see some of the Desert Sheep that live in the rugged mountains around Hoover Dam and the Hoover Dam Bridge.
You’ll be able to see the narrow, steep, winding road that took workers to the river level, where men blasted tunnels and prepared the dam’s foundation.
And far above the river, a simple two-lane road crossed the top of Hoover Dam and connected Las Vegas to the rest of the country at Kingman Arizona. Route 66 – The Mother Road – America’s Main Street. Route 66 carried families away from the Oklahoma Dustbowl in the 1930s, and brought many of them to jobs at Hoover Dam.
Hoover Dam Bridge and Hoover Dam Visitor Center
You’ll drive under the arch of the amazing new Hoover Dam Bridge – what a great project!
Next, at the Hoover Dam Visitor Center, you’ll travel down, deep inside the dam to see the huge generators the provide power to the Southwest.Once back in the visitor center, be sure to take a few minutes and go up to the observation deck for some of the very best views available.
Then you can walk out on Hoover Dam for even more great views, and after that you’ll have time for souvenir shopping and maybe some ice cream.
After that, we can walk out on the new Hoover Dam Bridge – 900 feet above the Colorado River. Remarkable views!
In the summer, you’ll feel the hot winds of the Mojave Desert blowing across you as you stand high above Black Canyon. It’s an amazing sensation – just imagine driving through Death Valley on a hot summer day in a convertible with the top down!
Come along with us on a professionally guided tour to Hoover Dam and the Hoover Dam Bridge. You’ll have an unforgettable day, and you’ll be back in Las Vegas in plenty of time for an early supper and a show.
There are other Las Vegas tour companies that go to Hoover Dam. In fact, I used to work for the competition. So I can tell you from my own experience: none of them will give you a better Hoover Damn Tour than we do.
